On July 20th, Writer/Director Joe Lovett was invited to attend the 24th Annual Conference for the Society of Crypto-Judaic Studies in Dallas, Texas. The Society’s mission is to “foster the research of the historical and contemporary development of crypto–Jews of Iberian origin. Additionally, it provides a venue for the descendants of crypto–Jews, scholars, and other interested parties to network and discuss pertinent issues. The conference included a panel with the leading academics in the fields of Jewish migration and the Spanish Inquisition, followed by a screening of selected scenes from the film-in-progress and a speech by filmmaker Joe Lovett. The panelists included renowned scholars such as Matthew Warshawsky and Leonel Chevez, as well as author Dolores Sloan and genealogists Genie Milgrom and Bennett Greenspan, and more.
Joe captured scenes from the conference as well as interviews with the panelists mentioned above and more. The stories they told shed light on the ever-expanding history surrounding this phenomenon and broadened its contemporary reach. Stay tuned to our website’s videos section for clips!
